Microsoft Ignite 2017 ImageAt the end of September, three of our senior developers, Caleb, Jim, and Ron, had the opportunity to go to Orlando, Florida to attend Microsoft Ignite 2017. Ignite is a conference held each year for Microsoft developers, and other technical professionals, to expose the crowd to upcoming technologies, new and updated development methodologies, and to offer a sneak peek of where Microsoft tools and products are headed in the future.

When Microsoft hosts an event, you know it’s going to be good. Ignite was no exception. The Orange County Convention Center was buzzing! People were hanging out, networking, and learning. There were over 26,000 people from around the world in attendance, not to mention the thousands watching online. Caleb described the atmosphere as “College like. The 1st year, not the 4th!” People were trying to get from session to session to soak-in and learn as much as they could.

So, what did we learn?

The Buzzwords & Trends That We’re Excited About:

Docker, Docker, Docker! There was a lot of buzz about Docker because companies are adopting it at a remarkable rate. Docker is a tool that makes it easier to create, deploy and run applications by using containers.

Containers is a virtualization method for deploying and running applications without the need to launch an entire virtual machine for each application. Containers allow a developer to quickly, reliably, and consistently deploy applications regardless of the deployment environment.

IoT Development – (Internet of Things) put simply is programming a device to talk to other devices. For example, making your refrigerator talk to your computer to order groceries. The possibilities here are really exciting.

Though we are trained and experienced developers, things change quickly, and there is always more to learn as technology advances.

Containers are going to be a thing. Don’t miss the boat on that one!

A Great Quote:

“Best way to predict the future is to create IT” – Originally an Abraham Lincoln quote, but Microsoft had shirts with this quote on it and adapted the “IT” part of it to represent “Information Technology”. So true!
